A perfect screening plant making a wind swishing evergreen hedge or lovely planted on its own as a specimen plant.
Forming a dense clump of foliage by sending up new canes from its spreading roots Bamboos prefer moist soils in full sun or part sun location.
Fargesia Rufus is not an invasive bamboo at all but you can restricts its eventual size by growing in a large container either on the patio or sinking the container into the soil.
Being a home vegetable gardener I keep my 20 year old Fountain Bamboo in check by pruning at ground level the tallest half a dozen canes each season, stripping off any leaves and laying flat in the roof of my shed to dry, where next season I use these canes as tripods for my runner beans and tomato plants.
Bamboo requires very little attention and will grow almost anywhere. In winter in exposed conditions its leaves can look tattered, but will quickly look good again once spring comes, with the benefit of sheltering anything growing, (or garden furniture!) on the other side of the prevailing wind.
Supplied in a 2 litre pot approximately 25-45cm tall.
