The Mountain Palm.
A reliable and dependable palm for the garden. Mid green, broad based, sword like leaves atop this slow growing palm tree. When mature, tiny white flowers appear in large clusters in a hot summer.
As the plant grows the lower leaves begin to turn yellow looking. Simply remove these by tugging down sharply to remove them revealing a lovely corky trunk. As it grows underplant with colour coordinated bedding and bulbs for added impact.
Described as hardy to Minus 5 degrees C, I've had a cordyline in my own garden for 10 years grown in a sunny, yet relatively exposed, inland town garden spot in well drained soil. Now at 2m tall I've never protected it from frost even when we had minus 13 degrees C! In very wet areas or snow prone areas ideally tie up the leaves to stop water sitting between the leaf and trunk in winter.
