Hardy Fuchsia Brutus

A plant that lives up to its name.

A vigorous upright plant with strong healthy pretty pink and green stems with dark green, pointed, serrated edged leaves. Its flowers have cerise red sepals and magenta fading purple petals.

In summer pendulous blooms hang from the stems. Each bloom forms into a bubble shape which make a satisfying 'pop' if you squeeze them. Each flower hangs like a spinning dancers dress as its outer sepals curl up to reveal its coloured petals beneath. As each flower fades they simply drop off so no messy deadheading.

Hardy Fuchsia can be treated as annuals and replaced every year as their growth is quick and floriferous, however these varieties are Hardy so will come back each year.

Officially classed as shrubs, because the lower stems become woody, I tend to think they behave more like a perennial. In most winters, in most areas of the UK, with the exception of the warmer south, they will lose all leaves and top growth bar a few centimetres of woody stems.
In late spring they begin to regrow not only from the woody stem but from new shoots produced from its roots underground. The new shoots are also susceptible to being nipped by frost.

Fuchsia hate their feet being wet in winter and prefer to be sheltered from cold winds.

Supplied as 9cm pot grown plants which are approximately 10cm high.
