Perennial plants in the true form are soft stemmed clump forming plants that grow and flower every year often having a period of dormancy underground in winter before shooting into new growth in spring. Within this group there are some grey areas. Some have more of a woody base, some are tender, some are evergreen and some are classed as short lived perennials.

Growth may have more attractive leaves than flowers and some have more attractive flowers than leaves – But what you can be assured of is colour aplenty- attracting lots of pollinating insects into the garden too.
