Schizophragma hydrangeoides 'Shiro Fuka Fukur'

Variegated Japanese climbing hydrangea.

Self-clinging climbing relative of hydrangea with wonderful heart shaped leaves with variegated grey / green and cream foliage.

In summer white flower heads appear in flat panicles. The foliage turns shades of yellow in autumn before fall revealing peeling bark on its older stems.

One of the key differences between this Japanese Hydrangea and Hydrangea petiolaris is that it tends to grow in a single layer up the wall. In comparison Hydrangea petiolaris will grow over itself creating a dense woody framework which isn't so tight against the wall making Schizophragma an ideal choice for a tighter space.
