Clethra Pink Spires (2 xx 9cm)
Sweetly scented spires of pink flowers in summer.
With a common name like 'Summersweet' you know what you are getting. Its spires of pink bottlebrush like blooms are loved by pollinating insects too. Sometimes you will get a rusty brown seed head for extra autumnal interest!
A rounded shaped bush with elongated leaves having a prominent central vein and toothed edges. Leaves are green turning golden yellow before falling in autumn to reveal scaly dark brown peeling bark.
Will cope with most light conditions even shade but does not like exposed sites or cold wet soil.
Prune any damaged or unwanted stems in early spring and remove 1/3rd of the old growth to ground level to allow new suckering foliage to come from its roots.
Prefers soil to be slightly acidic but feeding with ericaceous feed or sulphur chips should do the job without needing ericaceous compost.
Supplied as 2x 9cm pot grown plants approximately 10-15cm tall.
