The spherical shape and warming colour of these delightful Thuja Golden Globes add another level of interest to your garden. Maybe one either side of a doorway, gate or path, what a fantastic way to welcome people to your garden or just make you smile as you wander past.

Neat, compact and very easy to care for whilst adding interest and structure. These Golden spheres form the shape naturally and just require a simply prune once a year to remove any over enthusiastic stems and with a slow release fertiliser feed twice a year, it really is as simple as that!

A slow growing Thuja will measure 30-40cm on receipt and will grow to approximately 1 meter in height and diameter.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Gold through winter

Soft golden foliage holds its colour through all four seasons, giving the garden a rounded evergreen shape even in the middle of winter.

Shapes itself

The globe shape forms on its own without a clipping frame, holding a neat sphere either side of a path or gate with one light trim a year.

Resinous scent

Brush or crush the foliage and it releases a fresh, resinous scent, a small pleasure each time you pass on a path or by a door.

About This Plant

The parent species, Thuja occidentalis, is the American arborvitae, a conifer of eastern North America used to cold winters and ordinary soil. 'Golden Globe' arose as a gold-tipped branch sport and was named and released by the Grootendorst nursery at Boskoop in the Netherlands in the early 1960s. Growth is slow and steady.

Two habits are worth knowing. It will not push new growth from bare brown wood inside the plant, so keep any trim to the green outer shoots and never cut back hard. It also resents drying out, which matters most in a pot, so check the compost in hot spells rather than waiting for the foliage to dull.
