Aucuba japonica Rozannie, commonly known as Japanese laurel, is a bushy shrub that bears clusters of petite red/purple flowers in the Spring followed by large red berries which beautifully stand out against the shiny green foliage.

This Aucuba japonica Rozannie measures approximately 30-40cm in height on receipt.

Note- do not eat the berries as they may cause mild stomach upset, leave these for decoration and the birds.

About This Plant

Japanese laurel grows wild across Japan and neighbouring parts of east Asia, and 'Rozannie' is a compact female selection of it. Unusually it fruits on its own, setting glossy red berries without a male plant nearby, though a mate close by lifts the crop. Small maroon spring flowers come first.

It asks very little. Keep it watered through its first summer or two while the roots establish, after which it handles drought beneath trees. The berries can upset a stomach if eaten, so treat them as decoration and leave them well alone.
