Creating a statement in the garden - Cordylines are striking, architectural evergreens.

Perfect for beds and borders, or planters - Cordyline Red Star has sword like foliage.  The leaves dark bronze red.

These tropical looking evergreen love a sunny spot in the garden and will be hardy in most winters, but may appreciate protection in colder winters or on more exposed sites.

Mature plants can also bear clusters of small, ivory white, sweetly fragrant blooms in warmer summers.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Deep red drama

Arching bronze-red blades bring a rich, dark accent that sets off silver and lime planting partners all year round.

Flowers bees flock to

In warm summers, mature plants carry ivory flower plumes whose sweet nectar draws honeybees, bumblebees and hoverflies in numbers.

At home by the coast

Salt spray and sea winds do it little harm, which is why cabbage palms line so many British seafronts.

About This Plant

The cabbage palm is a New Zealand tree, known to Māori as tī kōuka, and Red Star is one of its best bronze-leaved forms. In Britain it became a seaside signature, so common along the Devon coast that the species picked up the nickname Torbay palm. The dark form adds a moodier note to that familiar outline.

Young plants are the tender ones, so give a new arrival its first couple of winters with fleece to hand for hard frosts. Once trunked and established it copes with far worse. Pull away browned lower leaves as they fade, which keeps the stem clean and the head looking sharp.
