Add some elegance, structure and varied form to your outside space with this wonderful evergreen shrub.

Phormium Jester is ideal to provide year-round interest in a border or as a colourful low maintenance pot or container plant on the deck or patio. A compact variety which is hardy down to -12c, Jester has wonderfully exotic leaves with a pink centre and lime green margins. Easy to care for, these stunning architectural plants make a real statement in any garden. Simply remove any dead or damaged stems and new growth will appear from the centre, feed twice a year with a slow release fertiliser and it’s as easy as that.

Supplied as an established plant in a 3 litre pot, this Phormium Jester measures approximately 25-40cm on receipt

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Pink and lime leaves

Every arching leaf carries a soft pink centre edged in lime green, a colour pairing that reads clearly from right across the garden.

Made for pots and patios

A compact habit keeps it tidy in a container for years, bringing evergreen colour to decks, doorsteps and small paved gardens.

Winter colour that deepens

Cold weather intensifies the pink striping, so the display peaks in low winter sunshine just as surrounding borders go quiet.

About This Plant

Jester belongs to the wave of coloured flax hybrids raised in New Zealand, where breeders cross the two wild Phormium species in search of new leaf patterns. Its habit is softer than most, the leaves arching over like the points of a jester's cap, which is presumably how it came by the name.

Old or weather-marked leaves can simply be cut away at the base, and fresh growth rises from the centre to replace them. A dose of slow release fertiliser in spring and again in midsummer keeps the colours strong, while a dry mulch over the crown sees it through a hard winter.
