Bi-coloured Agapanthus blooms!

Enigma is a more dwarf Agapanthus reaching around 50cm in height and spread and bearing wonderful bi-colour blooms in white and blue.

A country garden classic with its large spherical flower heads made up of several individual blooms. Its a stunner in the border.

Preferring free drained soil border this evergreen strap leaved perennial does not like to get its feet wet in winter so if your ground is wet then plant in containers. You can also move the containers around your garden for a pop of colour where required.

Agapanthus tend to flower more if their roots are restricted.

Supplied as 2 litre pot grown perennial.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

White trumpets, blue throats

Every trumpet opens white from a blue base, so each spherical head reads as two colours at once, a rarity among African lilies.

Colour you can move

Compact enough for a container, it can be shifted around the garden mid-season to drop colour exactly where a border has gone quiet.

Shrugs off dry spells

Fleshy roots store moisture, so established clumps cope with dry spells that leave thirstier border perennials flagging in high summer.

About This Plant

Hundreds of agapanthus have been named since the genus left South Africa for European gardens, and few carry a two-colour effect as clean as Enigma's. The dwarf, clump-forming build follows the family rule that flowering improves as the roots grow crowded, which is why old undisturbed clumps often perform best.

Sharp drainage matters more than anything else here, because the crowns resent sitting wet over winter. In cold districts a covering of dry mulch, or a move under cover, protects the resting plant, and cutting spent stems away keeps energy going into next season's buds.
