In summer small white nectar rich flowers appear all over the plant followed by attractive red berries which hold until the winter providing an excellent feed for birds. *fruits can cause stomach upset so leave for wildlife only*

A full sun spot will provides more flowers and berries.

Supplied as a 2 litre shrub approximately 10 cm tall x 20cm wide.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Bees then birds

White nectar-rich flowers draw honeybees and bumblebees in early summer, then red berries feed blackbirds and thrushes right through the winter.

Cover for bare soil

Dense arching branches knit together over bare soil, covering ground on banks and beneath walls where grass and weeds struggle to hold.

Evergreen through winter

Small dark leaves stay on all winter and take on purple tints in the cold, holding structure when deciduous planting has dropped.

About This Plant

Coral Beauty belongs to Cotoneaster x suecicus, a group of low, spreading hybrids grown for dense evergreen cover. Arching branches root as they spread, so a single plant slowly weaves a thick mat of small glossy leaves that shrug off cold and take on bronze tones in the depths of winter.

The coral-red berries follow the flowers and can hang on for months, though they will upset a human stomach and are best left for the birds. Little care is needed beyond an occasional trim to keep the spread in check, and it copes with poor, dry soil where little else will spread.
