The wonderful white flowers, blushed with pink (measuring up to 1.2cm), will bloom from deep pink buds this Summer and they stand out beautifully against the glossy, leathery, dark green foliage. Petite, glossy, green leaves will stay all year round and with a compact habit, this beauty would be happy in your garden bed/border or in a planter.

Appearing on the RHS Perfect for Pollinators list also means that the beneficial garden insects will also appreciate your new addition!

Simply snip back the stems as the flowers fade to encourage more blooms and a slow release fertiliser feed twice a year will suffice, nice and easy to care for although advice will be included.

Supplied as an established plant in a 2 litre pot, this Escallonia Donard Seedling measures approximately 25-30cm on receipt

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Holds a coastal garden

Glossy leaves and a wind-firm habit let it hold up in salt-laden coastal air and exposed gardens where many shrubs struggle.

Listed for pollinators

Listed by the RHS for pollinators, its pink-flushed flowers bring in bees, bumblebees and hoverflies through the summer months.

Evergreen winter cover

The small, leathery leaves stay glossy and green right through winter, giving a hedge or border year-round cover and a solid backdrop.

About This Plant

The Donard escallonias came out of the Slieve Donard Nursery at Newcastle, County Down, a Northern Irish firm known for its garden hybrids in the early twentieth century. This seedling makes a dense evergreen with dark, shining foliage and deep pink buds that open to flowers washed blush-white.

Care is light. Trim the stems back as the flowers fade to keep the shape tidy and draw out a second flush, and a slow-release feed twice a year keeps growth steady. On the coast it earns its place, shrugging off wind and salt spray that scorch less hardy plants.
