French Lavenders are famed for their fabulous scent and attractive flowers and this variety is no exception.

Aromatic silver green foliage is topped with large and plump, purple, spicy scented blooms which are purple in colour and 'fat' in form, hence the name! Flowerheads bear lighter purple 'ears' for that extra wow factor.

Hugely attractive to bees and butterflies, lavender is a fabulous addition to any garden. Ideal for planting in beds and borders or pots and containers. Flowers can be picked and dried to be used for their fragrance inside the home as well as being enjoyed in the garden.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

A magnet for bees

The plump purple heads pull in bees and butterflies from late spring, one of the busiest nectar stops in a sunny border.

Built for dry heat

Once its roots take, it copes with drought and poor sharp soil, holding up through hot dry spells that wilt thirstier plants.

Scent for the house

Silver foliage and spicy flowers can be cut and dried, keeping their fragrance indoors long after the flowering season closes.

About This Plant

French lavender carries its scent in the leaves as much as the flowers, and Fathead is grown for the shape of its blooms: fat, squat purple heads finished with a topknot of paler bracts, the ears that give the plant its name. The silver-green foliage stays aromatic all year.

Sharp drainage is the thing that keeps it alive; it rots in wet, heavy ground over winter, so grit the soil or grow it in a pot. Clip it over after the first flush and again in late summer to hold a compact dome, but keep the shears out of the old bare wood, which will not resprout.
