A low growing, spreading prostate shaped shrubby conifer with dense needle like foliage of the most attactive silver, blue, green colour.

Looks great planted in borders and copes well with most locations including coastal spots. Its spreading branches give it the common name of the 'carpet juniper' and it does exactly that covering the bare soil and almost completly smothering any potential weed growth under its thick layered branches.

Reasonably slow growing this conifer will take 10 years to reach is maximum size so requires little to no pruning or attention once settled in.
Its horizontal branches are strong with prickly needle like foliage making this plant a super deterrant to unwanted visitors. The pine scented aromatic foliage is scale like with sharp points giving it the comon name of Flaky Juniper.

Supplied as a 4.5 litre established shrub measuring approximately 20cm tall and 30cm spread on receipt.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Smothers out weeds

Dense low branches spread out to blanket the bare soil, building a mat thick enough to shade out most weed growth beneath it.

Thrives by the coast

Copes with salt-laden coastal wind and dry, poor ground, keeping its blue-grey colour in places where many other shrubs would struggle.

RHS award holder

Carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit, marking it out as a reliable performer worth its place in British gardens.

About This Plant

Raised in the Netherlands as a seedling of Juniperus squamata 'Meyeri', this low conifer carries flaky, needle-sharp foliage in a bright silver-blue. The colour holds through every season, and the branches build up in overlapping horizontal layers that give the plant its carpeting common name.

Once settled it asks for very little, growing slowly enough that pruning is rarely needed. Give it free-draining ground, since sitting in wet soil is the main thing it dislikes, and water it through the first summer while the roots establish. Long sleeves and gloves make handling the sharp foliage more comfortable.
