Commonly known as the New Zealand Flax, this large Phormium tenax Variegata will create instant in the garden.
The large, sword like foliage on this frost hardy evergreen is a vivid green with a striking cream margin.
Once established and the right summer conditions, red tubular shaped flowers appear on tall flower spikes creating a real spectacle.
Plant in full sun or partial shade, in either large pots or borders.
Low maintenance plants which are both drought and heat tolerant, these fuss free plants give height and structure to the garden all year round.
Perfect in containers and borders Phormiums may require protection in particularly wet and cold winters especially in the north of the country but if planted in free draining soil it should be fine.
No pruning required simply remove any faded leaves at the base and cut of any flower stems after flowering.
