Large white flowers with a golden centre.

Large white flower with a golden yellow centre are born in abundance on this deciduous shrub that loves a sunny spot in the garden.

The flowers appear over a long period, from May through to October, making this indespensible in the garden.

The green foliage also gives a wonderful Autumn display turning shades of copper and orange.

This low maintenance plants has been awarde the RHS Award of Garden Merit and its not hard to see why.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

RHS Award of Garden Merit

The Royal Horticultural Society gave this cinquefoil its Award of Garden Merit, a mark of dependable garden performance across British conditions.

Feeds passing pollinators

Open saucer-shaped blooms give bees and hoverflies easy access to nectar and pollen across a long summer flowering season.

Copes with poor soil

Shrubby cinquefoil shrugs off dry, stony and chalky ground, flowering steadily where richer plants would sulk in the summer heat.

About This Plant

Shrubby cinquefoils grow wild across the northern hemisphere, and 'Abbotswood' is a long-grown white-flowered form of the species. Fine dark green leaves divided into small leaflets give the low, twiggy dome a soft texture, and copper and orange tints warm the plant as the season closes.

Care is light. A hard clip in early spring keeps the framework young and encourages fresh flowering wood, and an occasional thinning of the oldest stems stops the centre growing woody and bare. It asks for little water once its roots have taken hold.
