Amethyst and white bi-colour blooms throughout the summer.

Salvia Amethyst Lips is a fabulous, evergreen perennial, bearing an abundance of purple and white bi-colour blooms from June through to August.

Loved by the pollinators, the flowers on this Salvia are gorgeous and will keep coming through the summer.

In addition to the blooms, Amethyst Lips also has aromatic, evergreen foliage which has a blackcurrant like fragrance.

This Salvia can need protection duing colder winters or in exposed sites and is best planted in full sun.

Supplied as 1 x 2ltr plant

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Bee and hoverfly draw

The open lipped flowers give bees and hoverflies an easy landing platform, and nectar keeps arriving from early summer well into autumn.

Blackcurrant scented foliage

Brush past the foliage and it releases a warm blackcurrant scent, so a spot beside a path or seat pays you back.

Copes with drought

Once its roots settle, it shrugs off dry summer spells and poor soil, holding its blooms through heat that flattens thirstier perennials.

About This Plant

Amethyst Lips belongs to the shrubby group of salvias descended from Mexican and Central American species, the same tribe that gave gardens Hot Lips. It keeps aromatic foliage through mild winters, and once the first buds open the plant produces fresh bicolour flowers in relays rather than a single flush.

In colder gardens the top growth can be cut by hard frost, so leave the old stems in place until spring as a little insulation, then prune back to healthy new shoots. Sharp drainage matters more than feeding, and a gritty free draining spot sees it through wet winters.
