Early flowering variety of Agapanthus

Jacaranda is an early flowering variety of Agapanthus than many others, offering up its showy blooms from June through to August.

The spherical flower heads are blue with a deeper blue stripe and are a magnet to bees and other pollinating insects.

Flowers appear on top of tall sturdy stems, reaching 90cm in height

Ideal for growing in pots and containers or beds and borders, position in a sunny spot for best results.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Bees crowd the blooms

The rounded blue heads pull in bees and other pollinating insects through high summer, giving working forage when many border plants have already finished.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

Judged by the Royal Horticultural Society for reliable garden performance, so the flowering and habit have been trialled rather than simply claimed.

Colour ahead of the crowd

Blooms open earlier than most agapanthus, so the deep blue globes arrive while later varieties are still building their flower stems.

About This Plant

The African lily traces back to South Africa, where it grows across the Cape regions before breeders selected garden forms like this one. Foliage holds through milder winters and drops back in harder ones, so growth stays semi-evergreen and the clump thickens steadily year on year.

Two jobs keep it happy. Lift and split a congested clump every three or four years in spring to keep flowering strong, and spread a winter mulch over the crown where frosts bite, since cold rather than wet does the real damage.
