Absolutely stunning, bright yellow flowers and renowned as being one of the most welcomed early Spring spectacles of colour to declare the end of dark, Winter days!

This deciduous, gardeners favourite displays masses or cheery, yellow flowers throughout the Spring to impressively, kick start the season of colour, followed by the green foliage.

Forsythia Weekend is an architectural, upright shrub with a delicate weeping habit and can be used to create a screen. Suited to all styles of garden and soil types, simply prune back each stem to 2 healthy buds once the flowers dwindle.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

RHS Award of Garden Merit

Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, one of the few forsythias singled out for the quality and reliability of its spring display.

Early golden flowers

Bare branches carry masses of golden yellow flowers set right along their length, opening early in spring before the leaves and leading the season for colour.

Takes any soil

The naturally dense, upright habit needs little pruning to stay in shape and takes to any soil type, chalk, clay, sand or loam alike.

About This Plant

Week End, sold under the cultivar name Courtalyn, was bred by the French research institute INRAE and chosen for its tidy, self-supporting frame. The show comes on bare wood first, a rush of yellow before anything green appears, after which plain leaves fill in and the shrub fades quietly into the background.

Prune as soon as the flowers fade, cutting each flowered stem back by about a third, since waiting until later means removing the very wood that would have carried next spring's blooms. Every few years, take one or two of the oldest stems down to the base to keep growth young.
