Dark purple foliage shrub with tubular pink, nectar filled flowers all summer long.

This gorgeous little deciduous shrub has deep purple foliage which is rich in colour and works as a fabulous back-drop to the beautiful pink funnel shaped blooms that appear from May through to August.

The nectar rich flowers act as a magnet to bees and other pollinating insects making it not only a beautiful addition to the garden but a useful one too

Easy to grow and compact nature make this a great plant for containers or borders.

Simply remove any damaged stems or unwanted growth after flowering. Trim the tips of flowered stems and every couple of years cut to ground level some of the thicker stems which will encourage younger stems to develop.

Supplied as a 3 litre pot grown plant

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

A magnet for bees

Nectar-filled pink flowers draw bees and other pollinating insects through summer, giving foraging insects a long feeding window from a compact shrub.

Near-black foliage

Deep purple, almost black leaves hold their colour all season and set off the pink blooms against fences and greener planting.

Happy in a pot

Its neat, low habit suits pots and small borders, staying tidy near paths and patios without spreading into its neighbours.

About This Plant

Weigela Minor Black is a dwarf selection raised in the Netherlands, grown for foliage so dark it reads as near black in strong light. Fresh growth emerges plum-tinted before settling to that deep tone, and the funnel-shaped blooms sit against it like small points of colour.

Pruning is the one job that keeps it looking its best. Cut back the flowered stems once the display fades, and every couple of years take some of the older, thicker stems down to the base so younger growth comes through with better leaf colour.
