Evergreen perennial that will love that damp spot in the garden.

Carex pendula is an evergreen, clump forming grass that thrives in a damp part of the border and is ideally suited for planting around the edges of ponds.

Luscious sword like foliage all year round and tall, drooping flower spikes in golden brown from May to July.

This fully hardy grass will form a large clump in the garden around 50cm wide and reaching around 120cm in height. Plant in full sun or partial shade.

Supplied as 1 x 2ltr

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Copes with damp shade

A British native of wet woodland, it grows happily in heavy soil and dim, moist corners where most border plants give up.

Green through winter

The arching, sword shaped leaves hold their colour all year, giving the border shape and movement when perennials around it have died back.

Cover for pond life

Planted at a pond edge its dense clumps shelter frogs, newts and other visitors moving between the water and the border.

About This Plant

This is one of our own wild sedges, found along stream sides and in the ancient woods of England and Wales. Gardeners grow it for the catkin like flower spikes that arch outwards and droop at the tips, ripening from green to warm brown and swaying in any breeze.

Care amounts to a spring comb through to pull out old leaves, plus a trim of tired flower stems once the seed has gone. Bear in mind it self seeds freely in moist ground, so remove the spikes before they ripen if you want it kept to one clump.
