Modern breeding of a traditional Cottage Garden favourite.

Known as the Obedient plant because if you bend its square shaped flower stems they stay in position. Just as you left them!

It is an upright clumping perennial which stays neat and tidy rather unlike its unkempt grandparents! Each stem carries clusters of flowers along its stems in summer which are loved by pollinating insects and resemble the flowers of snapdragons.

Its an evergreen perennial that does benefit from being chopped to ground level in winter to keep tidy.

Supplied ready to plant straight out in the garden and once established copes with drought well.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Fleuroselect gold medal

This white obedient plant earned a Fleuroselect Gold Medal, a European trials award recognising its long summer display and self-cleaning flower spikes.

Bees and butterflies

Snapdragon-like white blooms draw foraging bees and butterflies through the height of summer, feeding pollinators when many earlier perennials have finished.

Sturdy cutting stems

Short, rigid stems hold their spikes upright without staking and cut well for the vase, lasting in arrangements without wilting.

About This Plant

The obedient plant earns its name from hinged flowers that stay put when nudged, a quirk of the North American species Physostegia virginiana. Crystal Peak White is a compact selection bred for tidy, upright growth, and its pure blooms hold their colour rather than browning as they age.

In winter, cut the clump down to ground level to keep it neat, and fresh shoots push up again in spring. Give it moisture through the first season while the roots settle, after which it copes with dry spells and asks for little else.
