What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

White blooms in winter

Large white flowers, lit by a boss of golden stamens, open through the coldest months and show up beautifully against dark glossy leaves.

An RHS approved performer

It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, earned in 2012 for dependable flowering and a strong constitution in UK conditions.

Thrives in a pot

Grown in a large tub of ericaceous compost, it brings winter flowers right up to the back door where you will actually see them.

About This Plant

Silver Anniversary came from Nuccio's Nurseries in California, released in 1960 to mark the firm's first twenty five years in business. The blooms are unusually large for a white camellia, semi double with loosely waved petals, so the flower reads as informal rather than stiff.

Once settled it asks for very little. Mulch each spring with leaf mould or composted bark to keep the acid loving roots cool, and water steadily from July to September, the weeks when the following winter's flower buds are laid down. Deadhead spent blooms to keep the bush tidy.
