Apricot, pink and burgundy foliage.

Cordyline Charlie Boy is a fabulous variety, adding a real statement to the garden.

The strap like foliage is shades of apricot, pink and burgundy creating an eye-catching display. Ideally suited to growing in beds and borders or a large pot specimen for the patio.

Mature plants can also bear clusters of small, white, fragrant blooms.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Pink flames all year

Every sword-shaped leaf is edged cerise pink over bronze, an evergreen firework that holds its colour through all four seasons.

Honeyed summer scent

Mature plants send up plumes of small white flowers whose sweet fragrance drifts across the garden on warm evenings.

Instant exotic structure

One plant gives a border or patio pot the spiky silhouette of a palm, with no staking or training needed.

About This Plant

Charlie Boy began as a chance find. Grower Graeme Richards spotted a single mutated plant among green cordylines on his Lincolnshire nursery in 2003, and its cerise-edged leaves proved stable enough to propagate. So this exotic-looking cabbage palm, a species from New Zealand, was actually born in the east of England.

Winters are the only test. In most gardens it sails through, though in cold or exposed spots it pays to tie the leaves up into a loose column and wrap the crown in fleece during hard frost. Peel away tired lower leaves in spring and the fresh flush hides the join.
