Lavender blue flowers from May through to August, loved by the bees as much as it is by us!

This fabulous, fully hardy, Cranesbill type Geranium bears wonderful lavender blue flower from late Spring right through to late Summer and is a magnet for bees.

Ideally located in beds and borders, in full sun or partial shade, Geranium Johnsons Blue forms a dense carpet of foliage which is ideal for filling a gap in the border and keeping the weeds at bay.

Being a perennial it will die back each Autumn before returning again the following Spring.

Supplied as 1 x 2ltr plant

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

A magnet for bees

The open lavender-blue flowers are an easy landing pad for bumblebees and hoverflies, and they visit steadily through the main summer weeks.

Weed-smothering carpet

Deeply cut foliage knits into a dense low carpet that shades the soil and keeps weeds from getting a hold between border plants.

A second flush of blue

Shear the whole plant back after the first flush and a fresh mound of leaves with a second scattering of blue follows in late summer.

About This Plant

One of the older hardy geraniums still widely grown, Johnson's Blue came from a cross between Geranium himalayense and Geranium pratense and carries the name of the Welsh plantsman A.T. Johnson. It reached gardens in the 1950s and puts almost no energy into seed, which keeps the lavender-blue saucers coming.

The single job that matters is a hard cut back once the first rush of flower fades, which brings fresh leaves and often a lighter second showing. It dies down completely for winter and reappears in spring. Lift and split congested clumps every few years to keep them vigorous.
