Rich, plum coloured foliage and dainty pale pink flowers.

Heuchera Plum Pudding is a wonderful perennial plant which will keep its foliage in all but the harshest of Winters.

Large, lobed, leaves are a rich plum purple colour with attractive silver markings and from June to August tall, wiry stems are held high above the foliage bearing dainty pale pink flowers.

Heucheras are ideal for growing in beds and borders or pots and containers and add a splash of colour to the garden all year round.

Plant in full sun or partial shade.

This huechera is semi-evergreen so may lose some foliage in very cold winters but will re-grow the following spring.

Supplied as 1 x 2ltr plant

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Colour through winter

The plum-purple leaves hold their colour right through winter in all but the hardest cold, keeping a border or doorstep pot furnished when herbaceous plants have vanished.

Worked by bees

Through summer thin wiry stems carry small pale pink bells above the foliage, and bees work them steadily for nectar over several weeks.

Happy in shade

It settles happily into pots and containers or the front of a shaded bed, coping with the dry, low-light spots where brighter bedding tends to sulk.

About This Plant

This one came from Terra Nova Nurseries in Oregon, raised during the 1990s at a time when purple foliage on coral bells still counted as unusual. It has since outlasted many newer introductions. The wider group descends from species native to North American woodland and rocky ground, and the deep plum leaves here carry a silver wash over darker veining.

Over a few years the woody base lengthens and lifts the crown clear of the soil. Every third or fourth spring, dig the plant up, shorten the old stem and set it back in deeper so the crown sits at ground level. Clear off weather-worn leaves in spring, and in pots keep an eye out for vine weevil grubs at the roots.
