Fragrant and floriferous Lavender plant.

Known as the French lavender due to the fact it grows wild in the south of France this species differs from the English lavender in that the flowers are not so highly scented - But what they do give you is a much longer flowering period.
French Lavenders are repeat flowering plants beginning in May and continuing right through to the frosts in autumn.

Whilst they say not quite so hardy as English Lavender..... as long as you can make sure they do not get waterlogged in winter they should be fine. Grow in free draining soil, a raised bed or a container so that the water can get away and you should be fine. I've had French Lavender in my free draining Cambridgeshire Fenland peat soil since the year 2010 and they still produce masses of flowers every year.

Supplied in a 2 litre pot with a total height of approx. 15 to 20 cm.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Bees at the flower heads

The nectar-rich flower spikes draw in honeybees and bumblebees through summer, giving them forage long after many border plants have finished.

Scent along the path

Brush past the narrow grey leaves and they release a warm resinous scent that lingers around paths and container edges on warm days.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a mark of reliable performance in gardens across Britain.

About This Plant

Native to the rocky hillsides of the Mediterranean, this lavender carries small purple flowers packed into short heads, each one topped with a tuft of coloured bracts that gardeners call ears. The oily evergreen leaves stay silver-grey through the colder months, holding their form when herbaceous neighbours have gone.

It repeat flowers over a long stretch, so shear off the spent stalks to keep fresh buds coming. Sharp drainage is the one thing it will not do without, so a raised bed, gritty soil or a pot keeps the roots dry over winter. Trim lightly in spring, never into old wood.
