An attractive evergreen and slow growing conifer for containers or borders.

Dense foliage grey green in colour with gold flecks at the end make this variety a great choice for the garden and to accentuate areas with its columnar shape.

Slow growing conifers are SLOW growing and look great all year round. This plant is already 5 years old. Eventual height is 4m approx 15 feet but in 20 years!

No maintenance is required but should you want to trim it is easy to do with shears.

Supplied as a 4.5 litre pot grown plant which is approximately 30cm high.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Winter gold

Colour holds through the darkest months, its dense foliage carrying a golden frosting at the tips while deciduous neighbours stand bare.

Grows well in a pot

Slow, steady growth suits it to a large container or a tight border, where it holds its narrow outline for years without outgrowing the space.

Gold that lifts a corner

Foliage flushes brightest gold where light reaches it, giving a warm, upright accent among plainer green planting through every season.

About This Plant

Ellwood's Gold appeared in the mid-1960s as a golden branch sport on the well-known Lawson's cypress 'Ellwoodii', noticed by R.S. Corley and later brought to gardens by Hillier. New growth starts lime-green and warms to yellow, with a burnished cast settling over the tips as autumn cools.

Very little is asked of it. Left alone the branching stays tight, though a light trim with shears in spring keeps the outline crisp if you prefer. Give it a position with good light for the strongest gold, and keep container plants watered in dry spells, since the roots dislike sitting wet.
