Upright steel blue foliaged conifer often commonly called Rocky Mountain Juniper

Reminiscent of your Italian holidays this conifer is ideal to add thin , narrow and dramatic height to your containers or borders. They look superb planted along a pathway or to separate areas of the garden whilst still being able to see through.

Foliage is scented, dense and tight and stands upright from the trunk looking great all year round often carrying juniper berries in autumn.

A sLow growing conifer that can take 20 years to reach eventual height! So better to buy bigger now for instant visual impact.

Supplied as a 4.5 litre pot grown plant which is approximately 40cm high.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Slim year-round line

The steel-blue foliage keeps its colour every month, giving a narrow vertical accent that anchors borders and container groups right through the winter.

Resinous scented foliage

Brush past the tight foliage and it releases a resinous, pine-like scent, a quiet pleasure along a path or beside a doorway.

Berries for birds

Small silvery berries form in autumn on settled plants, adding a source of food for birds through the leaner colder months.

About This Plant

Selected as a seedling at Pine Grove Nurseries in Pennsylvania in 1949, this is a garden form of the Rocky Mountain juniper from western North America. Its foliage sits tight and dense against the trunk, keeping a slim column that stays much narrower than the older 'Skyrocket' it was chosen to improve upon.

Growth is slow, taking many years to build its full height, so it rarely calls for cutting back. Under heavy snow the upright stems can splay outward, so a discreet tie around the column holds its shape. Keep an eye out for red spider mite during long, dry spells.
