R.H.S award wining evergreen Pieris for the garden border or container.

Their evergreen foliage looks good all year round but in spring the new foliage at the top of the plant starts off red fading through to copper to mid green.

Atop the foliage creamy white flowers hang from arching stems. Great plants for a part sun or shady location.

Pieris prefer acidic soil or Ericaceous compost, adding Sulphur Soil chips to the soil should be enough to acidify the soil.

Supplied as a 4.5 Litre pot grown shrub measuring approx. 30cm high

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Fiery spring foliage

Fresh growth breaks brilliant red at the tips each spring, ageing through copper to green above the older evergreen leaves below.

Bees and butterflies

Creamy urn-shaped flowers hang from arching stems in spring, offering nectar to bees and butterflies as they emerge for the season.

RHS award winner

This Japanese pieris holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a sign it has proven itself hardy and reliable in trials.

About This Plant

Pieris japonica grows wild in the mountain woodlands of Japan, China and Taiwan, and Mountain Fire is one of its brightest selections. The show begins with a scarlet flush of new leaves each spring, settling to deep green as the season moves on and the shrub returns to its quiet evergreen self.

Like all pieris it wants acidic soil, so work sulphur chips into the ground or plant into ericaceous compost to keep the roots happy. Beyond that it needs almost no pruning, and a mulch of leaf mould each year holds moisture and feeds the surface roots.
