Sweetly scented rose pink/blush white flower clusters.

This fully hardy shrub bears the most wonderfully fragranced, sweetly smelling flower clusters in a delightful shade of rose pink/blush white from November through to March - what better way to brighten up the Winter garden.

Flowers appear before the foliage, making them even more visible in the garden and are followed by berries that turn from red to black.

This fabulous variety holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit and its easy to see why!

Supplied as 1 x 3ltr shrub

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

An RHS award holder

Carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit, recognition that it flowers dependably and copes well with the demands of a British winter.

Fragrance before sight

Sweetly scented clusters open on bare stems, and the fragrance travels on still winter air to reach you well before you see the flowers.

Food in flat months

Blooming through the cold months, it feeds bees and other pollinators at a time when almost nothing else in the garden is in flower.

About This Plant

Dawn was the first and best known selection from the bodnantense group, raised at Bodnant Garden in North Wales by head gardener Charles Puddle in the 1930s. It came from crossing two winter-flowering Asian viburnums, and its rose pink buds opening to blush white set the standard the whole group is judged against.

The shrub is deciduous, holding its scented clusters on naked stems before the leaves return, with small fruits that turn from red to black later on. Site it clear of the harshest frost pockets, since a sharp freeze can brown the open blooms, and keep pruning to a light tidy after flowering.
