Creating a statement in the garden - Cordylines are striking, architectural evergreens.

Perfect for beds and borders, or planters - Cordyline Torbay Dazzler has sword like foliage.  The leaves are green with creamy colour stripes.

These tropical looking evergreen love a sunny spot in the garden and will be hardy in most winters, but may appreciate protection in colder winters or on more exposed sites.

Mature plants can also bear clusters of small, ivory white, sweetly fragrant blooms in warmer summers.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Made for the coast

Salt-laden coastal wind and free-draining sandy soil suit it well, which is how it earned its name in the mild seaside gardens of Torbay, Devon.

Winter structure

The sword-shaped leaves, striped green and creamy white, hold their form through winter and give height and shape when herbaceous plants have died back.

Sweetly scented plumes

Mature plants carry panicles of small ivory flowers with a sweet fragrance that drifts across a warm summer garden and draws bees.

About This Plant

The cabbage palm hails from New Zealand, where Cordyline australis grows into a branching tree. Torbay Dazzler is a variegated selection named for the Devon resort town whose mild maritime climate lets these palms flourish outdoors. Its arching leaves carry lengthways stripes of cream against green, brightest on new growth at the crown.

In colder inland gardens it appreciates a sheltered spot, and tying the leaves up over the crown in a hard frost protects the growing point. Remove any tatty lower leaves in spring to keep the trunk tidy. Once roots are established it copes with dry spells and needs little watering.
