Silver-green foliage and great drought tolerance.

Juniperus Nana, also known as the Bonin Island Juniper has fabulous silver-green foliage all year round.

Adapting to its surroundings - given a large space its prostrate habit really excells, offering great ground cover. Alternatively, planted in a more confined space it will take on a neat and mounding habit.

Drought tolerant once established, Nana is a great addtion to rock gardens and gravel gardens as well as a great gap filler inbetween shrubs.

Supplied as 1 x 3ltr shrub

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Low spreading cover

Trailing stems spread flat across the ground, knitting together into cover that fills the gaps between shrubs and softens the edges of a path.

Shrugs off drought

Once established it copes with drought, holding its silver-green colour through dry spells that leave thirstier plants in the border looking tired.

At home on gravel

Well suited to rock gardens and gravel, it settles into the sharp drainage and reflected heat that those planting styles create.

About This Plant

Native to the mountains of southern Japan, this low juniper has long been prized by bonsai growers for its dense, fine foliage. In open ground it stretches out flat, while in a tighter spot it gathers into a soft mound, its silver-green needles carrying colour right through the year.

Give it free-draining ground and it needs little attention once the roots take hold. Water through the first summer to settle it in, after which drought rarely troubles it. Any stems that stray too far can be trimmed back in spring to keep the plant within its allotted space.
