What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Gold foliage year round

The three-part golden leaves hold their colour through every season, lighting a dull or part-shaded corner long after the flowers have gone.

Nectar for pollinators

Clusters of white summer flowers are rich in nectar, bringing bees and butterflies to feed among the bright foliage.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a sign it has proved dependable and easy to grow across UK gardens.

About This Plant

Sundance is the golden-leaved form of Choisya ternata, the Mexican orange, sold under the name 'Lich'. The species grows wild from Mexico into the south-western United States. Each leaf splits into three glossy fingers, and the newest growth is the brightest yellow, softening towards lime where shade falls.

A trim once flowering ends keeps the rounded shape dense and encourages fresh gold shoots. Bright but sheltered positions suit it, since cold winds and fierce midday sun can both scorch the soft foliage. Brush past the leaves and they release a sharp, citrus-like scent.
