Dazzling bright coloured foliage

Celebrated as the most vibrantly coloured Coprosma. Foliage in shades of orange, red, yellow and pink with a central splash of green. As the temperature cools in autumn the foliage colour intensifies for vivid display in containers or borders.

Compact plant having short stems and oodles of leaves making a dense display. Plant in a sheltered site away from cold winds and extreme winter weather.

Prune in spring any unwanted stems and shape as required.

Supplied as a 4.5 litre pot grown plant measuring approximately 20cm tall.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Brightest in winter

The colouring runs against the season, deepening to orange and red as the nights cool, so the plant reads at its boldest through the grey months.

Shrugs off sea salt

From New Zealand's coastal cliffs, it takes salt spray and dry ground once settled, earning a place in exposed seaside plantings.

Leaves that catch light

The high-gloss leaves are reflective enough to bounce light around a dull corner, which is how the mirror plant got its name.

About This Plant

The genus hails from New Zealand and Inferno is a female, variegated form raised by Peter Fraser in the Waikato, held under plant breeder's rights. It grows compact and densely leafy on short stems, and because everything rides on the foliage it keeps a border furnished long after summer flowers are over.

Its weak point is cold, drying wind, which scorches the leaves, so a sheltered spot matters and many gardeners keep it potted to shift against a warm wall for the worst of winter. Have fleece ready for a hard frost. Tidy any straggling stems in spring rather than autumn.
