Long season of interest from this attractive shrub

Called the 'Golden Twig Dogwood' because of its golden green vibrant winter coloured stems that contrast against its dark green leaves in summer.

A quick growing, suckering shrub that looks super in groups or planted with other dogwoods for a colourful autumn and winter display.
In summer off white clusters of flowers are loved by pollinating insects. The flowers often produce white berries with a blue hue that are loved by the birds.

In autumn as the weather cools the dark green leaves turn through a colourful range, in shades of yellow, orange and red before falling.

Prune every 2nd or 3rd year all stems in late winter / early spring to 15cm (6in) above ground. This will stimulate the plant to produce lots more lush colourful shoots. To keep it more controlled simply prune hard all stems each spring.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Golden winter twigs

This dogwood lifts the winter border with stems in bright greenish-yellow, the colour deepening as the cold sets in and the leaves fall away.

Happy in damp ground

The red-osier dogwood grows naturally along North American streams, so it settles into damp ground and pond edges where many shrubs would sulk.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

It carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit, recognition that it delivers its winter stems and autumn leaf colour reliably year after year.

About This Plant

Known as the golden twig dogwood, Flaviramea is a form of the North American red-osier dogwood, Cornus sericea. Through summer the greenish-yellow stems sit quietly behind fresh green leaves, then those leaves turn red and orange in autumn before dropping to leave the bare, glowing winter framework.

As with red-stemmed dogwoods, the newest growth carries the strongest colour, so hard prune the stems close to the base in early spring, either all at once or a third at a time. It spreads by suckering and copes with heavier, wetter soils that would trouble other shrubs.
