With a common name of beauty bush this is a must for the garden.
Woody framework on this deciduous shrub with long purple tinged leaves when young which turn green in summer and revert to purple with a golden tinge in autumn before falling.

Flowering in summer with tiny star shaped lilac blooms Profusion produces clusters of lilac shiny berries for the birds which hold well on bare stems once the foliage has dropped and create fabulous autumnal displays

To keep in shape simply trim back by 2/3rds each spring removing any damaged or unwanted stems particularly those that cross over the bush.
Tolerates a little alkaline in the soil but will have yellow leaves if it doesn't like it.

Supplied as 1 x 3ltr plant

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Violet berries for birds

Clusters of shiny violet berries cling to bare stems well into autumn, holding after leaf fall and feeding birds when other fruit has gone.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

The RHS gave Profusion its Award of Garden Merit, a mark of reliable performance in British gardens judged over years of trials.

Rosy autumn leaves

Before they drop, the leaves turn shades of rosy-pink and gold, a warm backdrop to the ripening berries in the shortening days.

About This Plant

The parent species comes from the woodlands of central and western China, and Profusion was picked out for the sheer weight of fruit it sets. Tiny lilac flowers open in summer and pass almost unnoticed, the real display arriving later once the berries colour up along the arching stems.

Berry set is heaviest when two or three plants grow within reach of each other, so pollination is not left to chance. The one regular job is a spring trim, cutting the framework back by around two thirds and taking out any stems that cross through the middle.
