Mop head hydrangea with colour changing flowers.

The gorgeous foliage on this fully hardy, deciduous Hydrangea is green flushed purple bronze.

Mop head flowers appear over a long period, starting blush pink and intensifying in colour with maturity, ending deep red or burgundy.

This fantastic shrub is easy to grow and holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding garden performance.

Plant in full sun or part shade for best results.  Plants will reach around 150cm height and spread and can be grown in borders or large containers.

Please note if growing in acidic soil flowers may be blue/mauve.

Supplied as 1 x 4.5 Litre shrub

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Proven garden performance

The RHS gave Preziosa its Award of Garden Merit, recognition earned in comparative trials for dependable garden performance year after year.

Foliage in three acts

Leaves unfurl flushed purple bronze, settle to green through summer, then turn deep red in autumn, on stems stained dark maroon.

Blooms that ripen red

Rounded heads open blush pink and deepen steadily with age, so by September the shrub carries every shade from rose to burgundy together.

About This Plant

Preziosa sits somewhere between Hydrangea serrata, the mountain hydrangea of Japanese and Korean hillsides, and the familiar mophead types; botanists still argue over which species should claim it. From the serrata side it inherits a tougher constitution and finer, smaller leaves than the usual border hydrangea.

Flower buds form on the previous summer's wood, so keep pruning light. Leave the faded heads in place over winter to shield the buds below, snip them off in April, and every second or third year remove one or two of the oldest stems at the base to keep growth fresh.
