Huge leaves on this statement plant!

Also called the Chinese Rice-Paper Plant - Tetrapanax Rex will create a real statement in the garden.

Evergreen and fast-growing with huge leaves that resemble a tropical palm.  Leaves can reach up to 100m across for a real wow!

Plant in full sun for best results.  Mature plants will produce creamy white, pom pom like flowers in the Autumn which may be followed by black berries.

Hardy to -10c, plants may require protection in colder winters or in exposed sites.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Late nectar and berries

Round creamy flower heads open late in the year when little else is out, feeding bees and hoverflies, and the black berries that follow feed birds.

Bold evergreen foliage

Large glossy leaves are speckled and webbed with white, giving bold evergreen shape to shady beds through every month of the year.

Fills shady corners

Grows well in partial or full shade, filling the awkward dark corners beside walls and fences where flowering shrubs tend to sulk.

About This Plant

Fatsia japonica grows wild in the woodlands of Japan and southern Korea, and Spider's Web is a variegated form whose fine white speckling spreads further across each leaf as the plant matures. Younger leaves often show the heaviest marking, so a mature specimen carries a patchwork of pale and green.

It sits happiest in a sheltered spot out of cold drying winds, which can scorch the foliage in a hard winter. Prune only to shape, doing it in spring, and pull out any all-green shoots that appear so the white variegation does not fade away.
