Transform Your Patio This Summer: The Best Bedding Plants & Perennials for a Stunning Display

Transform Your Patio This Summer: The Best Bedding Plants & Perennials for a Stunning Display

At this time of year, I tend to find myself daydreaming about those warmer, sunnier days that I know are just around the corner.Β  I’m ready to move out of my big warm jumpers and switch up the menu to something a little less wintery…..I’m dreaming of salads and a cool drink on the patio!

Whilst passing the time this way my mind will always wander to the garden, I can’t help but picture the hanging baskets and containers in full flower, with the bees and butterflies whizzing around very industriously whilst I’m relaxing and enjoying the sunshine.

Now is a great time to start planning how your patio will look this Spring and Summer.Β  Are you one of those gardeners who likes to have a colour theme in the garden?Β  Pastel pinks and purples or perhaps you’re going for a bolder, more vivid effect filled with zingy oranges, reds and yellows this year?Β  I wish I could be so disciplined! Β  Despite my best intentions, the patio always looks like a rainbow as I simply cannot resist adding in this extra multi-coloured Calibrachoa or that gorgeous Osteospermum which doesn’t really match its neighbours, but I don’t really mind.Β

If you too are dreaming of immersing yourself in a riot of colour and blooms this Summer on the patio, now is the perfect time to start planning.Β  And if you’re in need of a little inspiration why not check out our collection of Summer Bedding Plants.Β  Perfect for creating happy hanging baskets and classy containers.

If bedding plants are really your thing, try planting up some hardy perennials in pots and containers instead.Β  These low maintenance plants will still reward your efforts with months of colour on the patio, and will still attract those much needed pollinators into the garden, but will flower year after year making them a great long term investment for you and your planters!Β  Erysimum’s are always a favourite for me as they flower for an eternity and are so simple to grow.Β  Or try Dianthus, with a long flowering period and a fabulous scent.

Whatever your preference, happy planning!
