Golden leaved shrub with colour contrasting blue flowers in late summer.

A deciduous and fully hardy - late to leaf plant in spring- which has bright golden tooth edged leaves along its stems. The leaves are tinged with green giving a multi tonal effect.

A rounded shaped shrub bearing cobalt blue flowers held in clusters that look like pompoms in late Summer.

Leave spent flower heads on over winter and prune to shape in spring.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

A magnet for bees

The cobalt flower clusters open in late summer and draw honeybees, bumblebees and butterflies just as many nectar sources are finishing.

Gold foliage for months

Serrated golden yellow leaves light up the border from spring until autumn, so the shrub earns its place long before a single flower opens.

Recognised by the RHS

An Award of Garden Merit from the RHS backs up the pairing of coloured foliage and late flowers with proven garden performance.

About This Plant

Hint of Gold was bred by Peter Catt at his Liss Forest Nursery in Hampshire and patented in 2009 under the name Lisaura. Catt crossed existing bluebeards in search of larger, brighter leaves, and the aromatic foliage of this one releases its scent whenever you brush past it.

In spring, once the worst frosts have passed, cut the whole framework back by around two thirds. Flowers come on new wood, so this hard prune gives the best show and a tidy dome of fresh gold. Sharp drainage matters more than rich soil, especially through wet winters.
