Mounding evergreen foliage covered with hundreds of blooms in late spring.

Glossy evergreen foliage with rounded shaped leathery leaves. An easy to grow shrub that will tolerate coastal conditions and fairly dry soil.
In late spring hundreds of thimble sized blue flowers adorn the plant which are loved by pollinating insects.
Ideal for ground covering sunny borders. Its dense foliage smothers the soil making it more difficult for weeds to grow.

Will tolerate dry and coastal conditions well but avoid cold damp areas.

Prune in summer after flowering has finished.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Coastal and drought tolerant

Handles salt-laden coastal wind and dry soil that defeats many shrubs, keeping its low mounded shape where conditions turn harsh.

Weed-smothering ground cover

Low spreading growth knits into dense ground cover, the foliage shading the soil beneath so weeds find little room to take hold.

Hundreds of blue flowers

Hundreds of small blue flowers draw bees and other pollinating insects in late spring across the wide, low canopy.

About This Plant

Yankee Point comes from a stretch of the California coast near Carmel, and grows as a wide, low mound rather than an upright bush. The rounded leaves are thick and leathery with a glossy finish, forming a dense evergreen carpet that stays green from one year to the next.

Cold, damp ground is what it dislikes most, so free-draining soil and shelter from the worst frosts keep it in good health. Once the flowers have finished in summer, run shears over the surface to tidy the mound. It settles quickly and needs little attention after that.
