Bred for container growing giving vertical interest and flower performance.

Have you always wanted a clematis but fear they will get too big? Then this clematis collection is just for you. Clematis Boulevard are bred for container or basket growing! I have grown them both ways in my own garden and you will not be disappointed.

Compact flower stems reach only 1.5m / 5ft in height or trail! In late spring the stems are adorned with classically shaped clematis flowers repeatedly, in flushes, from May to October.

Nubia bears glorious red blooms sure to turn heads on the patio!

Requiring some canes standing 3-4 feet high above pot in a tripod shape or similar climbing support for the stems to scramble upon. Each winter/ early spring cut to ground level, top dress with fertiliser and away they grow again. Simple!

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

RHS Award of Garden Merit

Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, the society's trial-based assurance that a clematis performs reliably in British gardens.

Months of repeat colour

Deep red blooms arrive in flush after flush from May to September, each wave opening fresh colour as the last one fades.

Bred for pots

The Boulevard series was bred for container growing, carrying flowers low on the stem so a patio pot stays clothed in bloom.

About This Plant

Raymond Evison bred Nubia on Guernsey as part of his Boulevard series, selecting seedlings that flower along the whole stem rather than only at the top. Its tepals are a deep velvet red around a near-black centre, among the darkest reds in the modern clematis catalogue.

Growth dies away over winter, and that is your cue for the one job that matters. Cut every stem back hard in late winter, add a top dressing of fertiliser, and the new season's shoots will carry the flowers. In a pot, steady watering through summer keeps the flushes coming.
