Stunning Clematis with the WOW factor!

Samaritan Jo is a Raymond Evison variety a bears that real WOW we've all come to love from his Clematis.

Large white flowers flushed with a rich purple margin appear for months upon end - flowering from May right through to October.

Why not grow over a wall or fence to create a real impact in the borders, or alternatively, being a little more compact than many Clematis, try growing up a support in large pots and containers on the patio.

Plant in full sun or part shade for best results.  This type of Clematis should be pruned back in February or March each year to around 30cm above the ground.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Five months of flowers

Silvery white blooms edged in rich purple keep coming from late spring until the end of September, far longer than most large-flowered clematis.

Made for pots

A naturally compact grower that flowers well up a simple support in a large patio container, so small gardens and balconies get a full display.

Nectar for garden bees

Open, single blooms leave the nectar and pollen easy to reach, and bumblebees work the flowers steadily through the summer months.

About This Plant

Raymond Evison raised this variety at his nursery on Guernsey and launched it at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show, naming it in honour of the Samaritans, whose telephone volunteers are all known as Jo. Each silvery white bloom carries a pencilled edge of deep violet purple, colouring that stays crispest out of harsh midday sun.

Hard pruning suits it well. Cut every stem back to about 30cm above the ground in late February or March and it answers with fresh shoots that flower along their length. Regular deadheading keeps new buds forming, and a mulch of garden compost in spring feeds the long display.
