Show-stopping blooms!

When we saw this Clematis it took our breath away!

This fabulous Clematis bears violet blue blooms, each randomly streaked and splashed with pale mauve - which gives it the name Tie Dye.

A late flowering variety which blooms from July through to September each year.

Fully hardy climber, we suggest planting by a wall or fence, or train up an obelisk.

Prune hard in early spring, cutting back to a pair of strong buds, 15-20cm above ground level to enjoy a fabulous display each year.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

No two blooms alike

Violet blue petals streaked and splashed at random with pale mauve give every flower its own pattern, a colouring found in no other clematis.

Seedheads for winter

Leave the last flowers unpruned and silvery, feathered seedheads follow, catching frost and low light long after the leaves have gone.

A magnet for bees

Open flowers produced over many weeks in high summer give bumblebees and honeybees a dependable nectar stop when borders begin to flag.

About This Plant

An American discovery, Tie Dye arose as a chance mutation of the Victorian favourite 'Jackmanii' and inherits that plant's famously tough, obliging constitution. The marbling in the petals is entirely natural, laid down as each bud develops, and dark red anthers hold the centre of every bloom.

Treat it exactly as you would 'Jackmanii'. In early spring cut all stems back to a strong pair of buds near the ground, then feed and mulch, since flowers come wholly on new growth. A deep soak in dry spells and a stone laid over the root run keep it thriving for decades.
