Recognised for its fantastic garden performance by being awarded the RHS AGM, this Hydrangea will exhibit spectacularly large balls of white flowers during the summer months that will add drama to your garden border! These clusters of tightly packed white flowers in spheres can measure up to 25 cm across giving great impact and a real wow factor. As the flowers fade they will turn to lime green shades with age. This hardy, deciduous shrub would be a wonderful addition to any garden bed/border and can also be grown in a planter if preferred.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Carries the RHS award

This smooth hydrangea holds the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, recognition that it earns its keep in the average garden.

Dries for the vase

The blooms dry well, so cut them fresh for a vase or leave them to fade to parchment for winter arrangements indoors.

Lights up light shade

The big white domes glow in a part-shaded border where brighter colours would be lost, then fade softly to lime green as they age.

About This Plant

The species is a wild hydrangea from the woodlands of eastern North America. This selection, long sold as Hills of Snow, was found in Ohio around the start of the twentieth century and brought to market by the seed house Burpee. Its rounded white heads pass to lime green, then to papery brown.

Because flowering comes on new wood, cut the whole plant back hard in late winter or early spring and it will still bloom the same year. The one drawback is weight: those heavy heads can pull the stems down after rain, so leave a low framework of old growth, or ring the clump with support.
