Highly scented white flowers will liven up your outside space in mid to late Spring beautifully contrasting against the dark green, glossy foliage of this fabulous evergreen shrub.

Position this dense, slow growing, reliable shrub in a partly shady spot but close to a seating area or doorway if possible in order to appreciate the fragrance.

Awarded an RHS AGM, this variety is very easy to care for with just a simple prune after flowering and a slow release fertiliser feed twice a year.

Supplied as an established shrub in a 5 litre pot

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Spring scent that carries

Clusters of small white flowers in April and May release a sweet fragrance strong enough to reach a doorway or seating area several metres away.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

The RHS has given this shrub its Award of Garden Merit, recognising decades of reliable, trouble-free performance in British gardens.

A flowering evergreen hedge

Dense, glossy dark green growth takes clipping well, making a handsome scented hedge or screen for a partly shaded corner.

About This Plant

This hybrid was raised in the 1920s at the Burkwood and Skipwith nursery in Kingston upon Thames, a cross between the Chinese Osmanthus delavayi and the tougher O. decorus from the Caucasus. It inherited the fine scent of the first parent and the sturdy constitution of the second.

Expect steady rather than rapid growth, with neat, leathery leaves that stay presentable in every season. Any pruning should come straight after the flowers fade, since next year's buds form on the new summer growth. A feed of slow-release fertiliser in spring and autumn keeps it moving along.
