Exotic looking flowers on this climbing.

Semi-evergreen climbing passion flower plants that will bear masses of exotic looking flowers from July through to September.

In some very hot summers these passion flowers may bear inedible, yet non poisonous fruits.

Requiring a sunny wall with trellis or pergola to climb upon in a sheltered site. Prune, in late spring, any frosted or long untidy growth back to 30cm of the main stem

Damsels Delight bears white to pale lilac blooms.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Exotic blooms in late summer

Flowers up to 10cm across, white washed with lilac around rings of purple filaments, open in numbers from July into September.

Butterflies and bees call in

The wide, nectar-rich flowers draw butterflies, bumblebees and hoverflies, giving a sunny wall a steady stream of insect traffic in high summer.

Quick cover for walls

Climbing by tendrils rather than clinging roots, it dresses a trellis or pergola fast without damaging brickwork or leaving marks behind.

About This Plant

Damsel's Delight belongs to the Riverside series of passion flowers raised by Myles Irvine in Surbiton, Surrey, hybrids selected for flower quality and the constitution to live outdoors in Britain. Deeply lobed dark leaves set off the pale blooms, and after a hot summer a few egg-shaped fruits can follow, ornamental rather than edible.

Water generously through the first season while the roots find their way, and mulch the base each autumn in cold districts. The main pruning job comes in late spring, when frost-marked or straggly shoots are cut back hard, and flowering carries on regardless because blooms form on the new growth.
