Exotic looking flowers on this climber

Semi-evergreen climbing passion flower plants that will bear masses of exotic looking flowers from July through to September.

In some very hot summers these passion flowers may bear inedible, yet non poisonous fruits.

Requiring a sunny wall with trellis or pergola to climb upon in a sheltered site. Prune, in late spring, any frosted or long untidy growth back to 30cm of the main stem.

Snow Queen bears pure white flowers.

What This Plant Brings to Your Garden

Pure white passion flowers

Each bloom opens clean white with a hint of green at the sepal tips, held against dark leaves from July to September.

Evergreen in shelter

Given a warm wall it holds its leaves through winter, keeping green cover on a trellis when many climbers stand bare.

Bred for outdoor life

Raised from hardy Passiflora caerulea parentage, it settles outdoors against a sheltered sunny wall where tender white cultivars often fail.

About This Plant

A 2007 cross between hardy Passiflora caerulea and the tender, large-flowered White Wedding produced Snow Queen, introduced in 2011 by Surrey breeder Myles Irvine. He picked this seedling for the purity of its whites and the vigour of the vine, and each flower lasts around two days, roughly twice the span of most passion flowers.

Youth is the vulnerable stage, so keep a dry mulch over the root zone for the first couple of winters while the stems thicken. Tidy in late spring, shortening scorched or wandering shoots, and go easy on feeding, since rich living pushes out leaf at the expense of flower.
